CIP3 Controls from Printflow "The first installation in the Caribbean"

Many printing companies have recently invested in new prepress equipment to be successful in today´s extremely competitive printing industry environment.
The up-to-date computerized prepress technologies allow pressrooms to serve their customers effectively which results in costs reducing and enhancing of output.
While most pressrooms investments in prepress technologies are just a few years old the average age of their printing machines is significantly higher.
Many new printing machines with consoles have CIP3 interfaces included. This allows them the transfer of prepress information directly to presses in order to automate the printing process.
However most older printing machines eqiupped with consoles do not have CIP3 interfaces incorporated and therefore they are not prepared for accepting digital data from prepress. Moreover many companies own presses from different manufacturers which makes CIP3 retrofittings from press manufacturers technically more difficult and more expensive.
There are specialized companies offering solutions enabling so that even the old presses could utilize advantages of a digital prepress-to-press workflow.
One of the latest installations in Latin America interfacing a new prepress technology with older machines in order to preset ink fountains of presses from prepress data was done in the very end of last year at Amigo del Hogar printing company in Santo Domingo.
The company decided to invest in Digital Ink Preset System (DIPS) from European company Printflow. The DIPS allows a digital ink preset of several years old Heidelberg Speedmaster and Mitsubishi presses from a new Screen prepress through CIP 3 link. One Printflow solution secures CIP3 communication for both printing machines. As the most jobs Amigo del Hogar prints are the short run ones the company expects big savings in makeready time as well as in material waste by using the Printflow DIPS. The expected return on investment in this case should not be more than 8-10 months. The installation at Amigo del Hogar is the first Printflow DIPS installation in Latin America. Since April 2002 when the DIPS has been introduced at IPEX printing exhibition in Birmingham, UK more than 600 machines have been interfaced through Printflow solutions in Europe, the North America and Asia.
The first successful installation at Amigo del Hogar will surely be a good start for further installations in Latin America.
